Lay of the Land

Singapore is a tiny island with most of its points of interest concentrated in the south. Changi International Airport is on the east end of the island, a roughly 20- to 30-minute drive from the city center. All airport terminals are connected by the Skytrain, a free monorail that operates daily, 5 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. The subway system (MRT) connects the airport to the city’s central district—you will have to change trains at Tanah Merah station—and taxis are always available outside the terminals. There is a small taxi surcharge for journeys from Changi Airport, which varies a few dollars according to the day and time.
