Blackbeard’s Castle is frequently dubbed the Williamsburg of the Caribbean. Formerly Fort Skytsborg during the 17th century, the modern-day attraction, which is suitable for children and adults, consists of Blackbeard’s Castle, botanical gardens, historic houses (Pedersen Estate, Haagensen House, Villa Norman and Britania House), self-guided walking tours, life-sized copper and bronze pirates, shipwreck artifacts and a rum factory tour (with option to taste rum). It’s one of four locations throughout the U.S. Virgins Islands named to the National Register of Historic Places, earning its spot in 1991. There is even an inn on the property (aptly named The Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle) open to overnight guests. For a beautiful view of St. Thomas climb to the top of the tower—you won’t be disappointed.
