In downtown Tallahassee, the Challenger Learning Center is a 32,000-square-foot center run by Florida A&M University and the Florida State University College of Engineering. The Center “uses aerospace as a theme to foster long-term interest in math, science, engineering and technology; create positive learning experiences; and motivate students to pursue higher education and careers in these fields.” And it is also really fun for adults! No visit to the Center is complete without a trip to the Space Station Simulator. The simulator is modeled after the NASA Johnson Space Center and the International Space Station. There are three space missions that can be simulated for groups of nine people or more. Also not to be missed is the five-story Planetarium, which brings the night sky to life for those who reach for the stars, and the IMAX theatre, which shows the latest Hollywood hits and documentaries.
