While Tel Aviv can more than hold its own as a standalone destination, if you have time for an day trip, make sure that it’s Jerusalem. Less than 40 miles to the east, it’s Israel’s official capital and a holy city for three major world religions. Ideally, you would have several days to explore Jerusalem’s myriad historical attractions, but in just a day you can get a flavor of the old city walls and see such important sights as the Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre. You can get to Jerusalem easily enough on your own, but if time is short consider a guided tour that picks you up from your hotel. Bein Harim Tourism Services runs two tours daily, a half-day tour and whole day tour. Nice, knowledgeable guides help make the most of even a short visit.
