For a fascinating and comprehensive glimpse of the history of the Jewish people, take a short taxi ride to the campus of Tel Aviv University in Ramat Aviv, where you’ll find the Beit Hatfutsot Museum. Unassuming from the outside, inside there is a remarkable core exhibition that relates the history of the Jews, with an emphasis on the continuity of Jewish culture throughout history. Particularly moving are the scale models of synagogues throughout Europe and the Middle East that were destroyed by war and acts of vandalism. It’s worth taking a guided tour for a small extra fee. The museum also has a great gift shop and Aroma Café, featuring tasty coffee and cakes.
