A dozen different rafting guides float various stretches of the winding Snake River, which begins in Grand Teton National Park just north of town and winds its way to meet the Columbia in Washington. For a scenic and mellower float, head into the park and hook up with Grand Teton Lodge Company. You’ll spot moose, eagles and pronghorn antelope during a leisurely afternoon between Deadman’s Bar and Moose. The serious whitewater happens south of town, in the Snake River Canyon, and Mad River Boat Trips will take you through with some of the most experienced guides in town. Watch for elk on the banks, and prepare to get wet. Both outfitters (and many others) can combine a day on the river with a picnic lunch or dinner.
