Located in a restored 1902 historic building, one of only a few left in the once-thriving plantation town of Pu‘unēnē, the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum presents the history of the sugar industry on the island. The museum’s six rooms show artifacts and exhibits about plantation life and the immigrants that came from all over the world to fill the industry’s labor needs, influencing Maui’s rich ethnic diversity. Learn about the introduction of the crop to the Hawaiian islands and how the sugar industry became a major player in the Hawaiian economy. Outdoors, visitors can see exhibits of plantation equipment and discover how sugar cane is planted, harvested and processed.
