The Bailey House Museum is located at the mouth of the Iao Valley on the royal compound of Kahekili, last ruling chief of Maui, in a mission-style home built in 1833. The museum, operated by the Maui Historical Society, opened in 1957 and now showcases the largest collection of Hawaiian artifacts on the island. Peruse the collection of 19th-century furniture and paintings left from the Bailey family, who lived on the property as missionaries until 1888. Be sure to take a stroll on the museum grounds, which are comprised of native and mission-era plants and stop in the gift shop for Maui-made merchandise.
