Opened in 1999, this well-executed redevelopment project has made it possible to experience the historic waterfront along the Tennessee River that was one of the main reasons Knoxville was founded in the first place. More than a mile of paved and landscaped riverfront paths punctuated by waterfalls and offers extensive views of the river and the boating and fishing industries. In addition to the Star of Knoxville riverboat, which docks here, there are three restaurants in Volunteer Landing and the station where you catch the Three Rivers Rambler Railroad. The result is a lively hub of activity and social life that’s brought this formerly derelict area to life.
