Did You Know

William Blount, of the Blount Mansion, was responsible for choosing the name Knoxville. The inventor of the Dempster Dumpster, George R. Dempster, was Mayor of Knoxville in 1952-1955. Knoxville was home to one of the most intense Union supporters, William Brownlow, who was editor of the newspaper the Knoxville Whig.
