Three hours from Kailua-Kona lies the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden in Onomea Bay. More than 2,000 species of flora dot this valley garden, which also features waterfalls and streams, nature trails and ocean vistas all in a tropical rainforest setting. In the Founders’ Birdhouse, visit with the colorful Macaw parrots before exploring any of the numerous trails. On Saturday a one-hour guided tour is offered for an additional $5 for adults (17 and older, youth and children are free).
