Get up close and personal with some of the most active volcanoes in the world—Mauna Loa and Kilauea. On foot, you have the chance to trek around the park with more than 150 miles of trails at your disposal. Bike along Crater Rim Road and take in the volcanic scenery, then camp for the night—it’s free, save for the entrance fees—at the Namakanipaio and Kulanaokuaiki campgrounds. Be sure to check out Nahuku or Thurston Lava Tube, a 500-year-old lava cave, ending in a rain forest. Both the Kilauea Visitor Center and Jaggar Museum offer a chance to learn more about different aspects of the park, volcanology and seismographs.
