Head up 9,300 feet above sea level to the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station to check out the stars like you’ve never seen them before. First Light, a documentary about Mauna Kea begins at 6 p.m., and then the crowd moves outside to view the night sky through telescopes, which are operated by staff. Be sure that you dress warm—temperatures can dip to near-freezing some nights at this altitude—and have a full tank of gas as there are no gas stations at Mauna Kea and the closest place to fill up is about 30 miles away.
