In Lagos, it doesn’t get more iconic than this building’s imposing metal structure designed to resemble a military general’s hat. Built in 1976, the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu is a national monument committed to preserving and promoting Nigerian culture. It was created during the regime of Major General Olusegun Obasanjo as the defining symbol for performing arts in the country. Its auditorium seats roughly 3,000 people with additional conference and exhibition halls that hold a couple thousand more. The theatre is also home to various galleries such as the National Gallery of Arts. And, if that’s not enough, you’ll also find a restaurant and bar here.
