If you’re an art lover, then Miami is likely on your radar whether the first week in December has ever beckoned you to the beach or not. If you haven’t made it to town for Art Basel Miami Beach, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
At the onset, there was only the Miami Beach little sister of the famed Swiss fair within Miami proper, but the number of venues has exploded during the past eight years, and it is officially physically impossible to see everything there is to see and do everything there is to do within the space of a week’s time. That doesn’t keep the heartiest among the collecting connoisseurs from trying, though, and if you’re a die-hard enthusiast of the plastic arts, you’d best resign yourself to getting in on the fray! There’s a lexicon you’ll need to study up on before you hit town, or you’ll be asking, what are satellite fairs and container galleries, and what the heck does “art loves design” mean? Just try to make all the parties; we dare you!
