One of the largest art collections in Europe, the Maeght Foundation is also unique for how it integrates art and design. Of the great 20th-century artists represented here, many have works that tie in with the building, from wall mosaics by Chagall and Tal-Coat to stained glass by Miro, Braque and Ubac to a courtyard filled with sculpture by Giacometti. Located in the town of St.-Paul de Vence (also simply called St.-Paul) about 25 minutes from central Nice, Foundation Maeght can be reached by taxi for €45 (approx. $58). For much less money and a slightly slower journey, take the 400 bus, which leaves from the JC Bermond station in central Nice, at Rue Gobernatis and Avenue Felix Faure, approximately every 30 minutes. While you are in the area, be sure to take the bus or taxi to the charming hilltop village section of St.-Paul de Vence, where many of these artists lived and worked.
