The Roissy/Charles DeGualle Airport is about 25 kilometers from Paris, and taxi stands are located outside all airport exits. Prices range from €25–50, and travel time to Paris is about an hour. Within the city, the Métro is not difficult to figure out, though service personnel in the stations are not always helpful, and not every stop has one. This means purchasing tickets—even with the automated booths that dispense them—can be a challenge unless at least a rudimentary knowledge of French is at your employ. Taxicabs are generally easy to find on most main thoroughfares but be sure to walk to the designated areas where they’ll be waiting in the order they finished their last fare.
Getting around on the Métro is easier than one might think—the interactive signs with inset lights that map out a route are user friendly even if you don’t speak French. Do beware, however that Paris is a city of etiquette and signs explaining who has priority for seating on trains are in French. If you want to be prepared, here’s the lowdown on who takes precedence: women with children, pregnant women, people 75 and older, and those with disabilities.
