Just 24 miles south of the city in the Gulf of Mexico rests the USS Oriskany. Now the world’s largest artificial reef, the 911-foot retired aircraft carrier was intentional sunk in 2006, and attracts divers from all around the world. This underwater treasure sits upright 212 feet below the surface, and with the top of the control tower at just 70-feet, this is a dive accessible for divers of all skill levels. Plus, the Gulf’s warm waters allow for year-around diving, with water temperatures in the 80s during the summer and 60s during the winter.
