Considered the oldest cemetery in Florida, St. Michael’s Cemetery dates back to the early 19th century. This open-air museum has more than 3,000 marked graves, and many more unmarked graves, where visitors come to see the storied past of Florida’s inhabitants. Gravestones reflect the status and ethnicity of the individual and help provide evidence of the cultural makeup of the society. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this eight-acre landmark boasts monumental mausoleums and historic markers, where both nobility and slaves are buried side-by-side.
