What to Pack

Check the weather report before you pack, as it is a common mistake for people to think that the temperature in Phoenix is always stifling (though it’s a dry heat). That may be true from May to October, but the winter months have been known to get rather chilly, as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The city also tends to experience periodic (though admittedly rare) stints of nonstop rain. In summer, it’s a good idea to plan your outdoor recreation for morning and late afternoon when it’s cooler. Save the trips to museums, art galleries and shopping malls for midafternoon, so you can pass the hours in the comfort of air conditioning. For the most part, the dress code in Phoenix is casual, though of course if you’re dining in a 5-star establishment, the same rules apply as anywhere else (ie. no jeans and sneakers!).
