CNBC recently acknowledged Providence as one of the best food cities in the country. Maybe that has something to do with Johnson and Wales University (and its culinary program) being headquartered there. In 1979, Dr. Morris J.W. Gaebe, the school’s chancellor, created a museum celebrating the history of gastronomy. Now called the Johnson and Wales Culinary Arts Museum, it houses more than 250,000 food and cooking related items, including rare historical cookbooks, tribal cookware, art, commercial cooking products and photographs. It’s a must-see for any food lover, chef or history buff.
