This gathering of 58 historic upstate New York buildings is a living museum that recreates a working 19th-century village. Situated 20 miles southwest of Rochester on more than 600 acres of rural land, the buildings include a tavern, drug store, schoolhouse, an Italianate villa mansion, pioneer farmstead and the childhood home of Kodak founder George Eastman. In addition to the bygone architecture, the 19th century is further brought to life with interpreters dressed in period costume and demonstrations of activities including blacksmithing, basket weaving and cooking over an open hearth. And if that is not enough to take you back, stroll through the period gardens or take in a game at the baseball diamond where teams from yesteryear play ball in period dress and according to 19th-century rules.
