The George Eastman House and International Museum of Photography and Film combines the world’s leading collections of still and motion picture photography with the magnificence of the landmark 1905 Colonial Revival mansion and gardens that Kodak Company founder George Eastman called home. Eastman is heralded as the father of modern photography and the inventor of motion picture film, and the museum provides an insightful glimpse at Eastman’s life and career. It also includes exhibits on photography and film, offers film screenings and showcases a film and video technology collection. Visitors can tour several rooms of Eastman’s former residence as well as the formal gardens. Exhibitions run the gamut from retrospectives of well-known artists such as Ansel Adams to more avant-garde shows. The permanent photography collection boasts more than 400,000 prints and negatives. Also onsite is a superb gift shop and tearoom.
