Perhaps no other spot in the entire country is as representative of the new Brazil as Rua Oscar Frieire, a sort of Rodeo Drive for the country’s upper crust. Hundreds of designer stores and boutiques, many of them outrageously expensive and avant garde, sit side by side in this ultra ritzy shopping district. The prime stomping ground can be found between Alameda Casa Branca and Avenida Doutor Arnaldo in the Jardins district. You’ll find a range of stores, both national (Glória Coelho and H. Stern) and international (Louis Vuitton and Dior). And when you’re tired, you can duck into an Italian coffee shop for an espresso or relax in a chair and sip on champagne while dresses are brought out for you.
