To escape typical Shanghainese cuisine, head to Lost Heaven for the regional flavors of China’s ethnic minorities in and around the Yunnan Province. Try interesting dishes such as Dai tribe sea bass with black bean sauce, Yunnan wild vegetable cake or the Yi tribe spicy beef stir-fry. There are a few locations these days, but the original outpost in the French Concession is a more intimate restaurant with dark wood accents and zen-like ambiance.
