Syracuse regularly wins the Golden Snowball award for upstate New York's most shoveled-out winter.

From 1946 until 1963, Syracuse was home to the NBA team Syracuse Nationals who won the NBA championship in 1955. Today they are called the Philadelphia 76ers.

The New York State fair, which takes place in Syracuse, is the longest-running state fair in the country. It started in 1848 and runs for one week a year at the end of the summer.

Famous Syracusians include actors Tom Cruise and Richard Gere, interior designer and TV personality Thom Filicia, and singer Grace Jones.
