While it is cold in the winter and hot and muggy in the summer, Syracuse can be a bit unpredictable weather-wise. In general, the cold and snowy winters call for a warm parka (no, a wool pea coat will not suffice these bitter winds), long underwear, sweaters, turtlenecks and mittens, hats and scarves. A note about boots: The salt used to melt the snow and ice will wreak havoc on your shoes, especially leather, so make sure to bring a pair of rubber-soled boots. In the summer light, easily layered separates are good, and sunscreen is a must.
