The 802-room Shangri-La Bangkok is so big it's virtually a city within a city. But inside its luxurious modern Krungthep wing can be found some welcome respite: Chi Spa. Opened in 2004, and recently expanded to include nine capacious treatment suites, the space is a sleek contemporary take on a Far East retreat with gongs, rugs and screens accenting the clean-lined design. Chi's approach combines Thai, Chinese and Himalayan traditions, and is rooted in your element of choice. After asking you are few questions, they will determine your sign (either air, fire, metal, wood or earth) and tailor your treatment accordingly. Signature treatments include a hot stone massage, using ingredients from the Himalayas.
