Set in a renovated industrial building, The Fondazione Prada began as PradaMilanoArte, a program launched by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli as a space dedicated to contemporary sculpture. In 1995 the program was reorganized as Fondazione Prada and expanded its focus to help produce site-specific projects that artists dreamed of constructing as well as projects involving urban environment and culture. Installations have included Dan Flavin’s permanent work for the Church of Santa Maria Annunziata in Chiesa Rossa and film, video and photography exhibits by emerging artists such as Mariko Mori. Every year in Milan the foundation presents two exhibitions dedicated to new projects conceived in collaboration with renowned contemporary artists. The original space is set to relocate south of the city center to a Rem Koolhaas-designed digs set in a cluster of warehouses and a distillery plant.
