An East Side institution since the 1970s, the menu is pure nirvana for vegans and vegetarians. Farm-to-table ingredients in the café mirror a locavore mantra in the attached market and deli. Warm up with a bowl of vegetarian chili, a tempeh/lettuce/tomato sandwich or burritos that have been on the menu since 1979. Daily breakfast and weekend brunch include tofu scramblers, biscuits and gravy (using mock sausage) and indulgent French toast (Wisconsin maple syrup drizzled over slices of Challah bread). Desserts are home-style and made from scratch, with a few vegan options.
