It’s no surprise that Milwaukee, with serious German roots, is home to a century-old German restaurant that first opened its doors in 1902. Yet the vast list of celebs who have dined here is surprising, from Katy Perry to Mikhail Baryshnikow. The menu contains Old World dishes such as kasseler rippchen (smoked pork loin with sauerkraut and potato dumpling with smoked thyme) and a Rhine sampler (wiener schnitzel, Rheinischer sauerbraten with spätzle, red cabbage and sauerkraut). Antiques aficionados take note: A $3 million collection of art, medieval armor and antiques as old as the 14th-century is in the dining room, and a gift shop next store hawks beer steins and America’s largest collection of M. I. Hummel figurines.
