As a remaining pillar of pre-Revolutionary war opulence, the Palace of Versailles and its surrounding grounds are an architectural dream. Lauded as one of the most beautiful achievements of 18th century French art, the Château de Versailles, which began as a simple hunting lodge for Louis XIII, includes the Hall of Mirrors, the King’s Grand Apartments and the Museum of the History of France. Peering from the central window of the Hall of Mirrors, you can see the vast restored garden. Seemingly endless, the garden extends from the exterior of the Château de Versailles to the railings of the park, and includes its famed manicured shrubbery, fountains and statues. This, along with the Grand Trianon and Marie Antoinette's estate, offers a visual feast for the eyes and a veritable history lesson of France's famous monarchy.
