The Desert Botanical Garden is the perfect way to experience the desert landscape of Phoenix without actually venturing out into the wilds. Founded in 1937 to preserve what was then thought of as a quickly disintegrating landscape, the garden offers the world’s finest collection of arid-land plants from deserts all over the world. There are nearly 2,000 species of cacti alone (including the famous saguaros) and more than 50,000 desert plants. Bring a bottle of water, as it does get hot. The garden offers specialized tours, seasonal exhibits, concerts, family activities, an outdoor café, gift shop and plant shop.
