This opulent mansion, built between 1929 and 1931 by chewing-gum tycoon William Wrigley Jr., shows just how loudly the 1920s roared in the Arizona desert. The hilltop home affords spectacular views of greater Phoenix and the Arizona Biltmore, which Wrigley owned. The Spanish Colonial property was the brainchild of architect Earl Heitschmidt of Los Angeles, who conceived 24 rooms and 12 bathrooms on more than 16,000 square feet, at a mere cost of $1.2 million (remember, this was almost a century ago!). Sadly, William Wrigley died in 1932 shortly after its completion, but the mansion has held a place in Phoenix history ever since. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now a recognized landmark that runs tours (plus a lunch) Wednesdays through Saturdays. Go back in time and experience the grandeur.
