Before opening her restaurant, Silvana Salcido Esparza spent a year in Mexico learning about cuisine from local villagers. A decade later, Esparza’s intriguing menu at Barrio Café features regional cuisine from central and southern Mexico, and she herself has been nominated for a James Beard award.
