Staroměstské náměstí 1

Join the crowds at noon for the big show of the Orloj, Prague’s medieval-era astronomical clock from 1410, which displays the positions of the zodiac, the ancient Czech time scale and the sun and the moon. The clock announces the hour with a mechanical Walk of the Apostles who are all followed by a dancing skeleton to remind viewers to seize the day. But before you’re overcome by your own sense of carpe diem, take in the Disneyland-like architecture of the rest of Old Town Square: the spiky Gothic spires of the Church of Our Lady Before Týn, the neoclassical elements of Kinský Palace, the haunting figures of the Jan Hus Memorial, the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas and the sunny cafés spread out at the entrance to Celetná street. Take a breath. Carpe diem can wait.
