Built in honor of Italian immigrants to São Paulo, this 46-story, 492-feet-tall skyscraper is still one of the most famous buildings in Brazil, even though it is no longer the tallest (that would be the nearby Mirante do Vale). Edifício Itália has a rooftop observation deck with incomparable views of the seemingly never-ending urban sprawl. German-Brazilian architect Franz Heep’s building, built from 1956 to 1965, is a triangular tower with curved corners and is covered with brise-solei. The façade underwent a renovation that finished in 2006. The Terraço Italia restaurant on the 45th floor has 360-degree views and is a popular dining spot for tourists, though most visitors just come via elevator for the spectacular city views one floor up.
