Travelers flock to Savannah’s River Street for its historical attractions, shops and restaurants. See the spot where James Oglethorpe landed in 1773 and where he pitched a tent to rest on his first night in Georgia. You also can walk past the Liberty Monument honoring the first American Naval vessel, which sailed from Savannah port in 1775, or the Olympic Games Monument recognizing Savannah as the yachting venue for the 1996 Olympic Games. When you’ve had your fill of history, grab a table at the Chart House for a seafood lunch in a former sugar and cotton warehouse or opt for a burger at Boar’s Head Grill and Tavern. Now with a full stomach, browse the many shops featuring everything from affordable souvenirs and local arts and crafts to books and specialty foods.
