As an anchor for the downtown cityscape, the Spokane River is a hub of activity and one of the defining jewels of the city. Though there are multiple ways to experience it, taking a rafting trip through the waters provide an intimate, unparalleled adventure you won’t encounter in a landlocked city. If you’re feeling brave and willing to paddle through the rushing lower Spokane River gorge, then a whitewater trip is where you’ll find the most invigorating ride. In addition to your life jacket, also plan on wearing a swimsuit, because as you and your army of paddlers cut through the water flow, you’ll likely get drenched. Along the way you’ll see Ponderosa pines and basalt cliffs, in addition to soaring eagles. If simply floating on the river is more your tempo, the low tides of late summer provide a more serene ride. At either speed, you’ll gain an in-depth appreciation for the city’s intrinsic beauty.
