Arizona’s first settlement, founded as a Spanish fort in the mid-1700s, is now an artists’ colony and shopping village 45 minutes south of Tucson that’s become a destination for collectors. The Tohono Village Trading post, owned and run by the Tohono O’odham tribe, showcases the work of local artists. More than 100 other galleries and stores sell works by other tribes and local artists, Mexican and South American imports and more. The Tubac Festival of the Arts, held annually in February, is an enormous outdoor arts and crafts show set to New Age music.
