There are numerous spots surrounding Nassau and Paradise Island for experienced divers and amateur snorkelers alike. If you’re looking to don your fins and mask right on the beach, Sea Gardens off Love Beach, west of downtown Nassau, includes coral reefs and sea fans in a large shallow area. Snorkeler’s Cove is another spot off Paradise Island. To head further offshore, though, you’ll have to charter a boat or take a diving or snorkeling trip. One of the largest operations in the area is Dive Bahamas, owned by Stuart Cove (who earned the money to open his own company as a stunt diver on the 1977 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only). The dive shop’s guides will pick you up and take you out on the water, whether you want to go snorkeling, ride underwater scooters, dive—or even dive with sharks. And you’ll depart from the dive shop where the 1995 movie Flipper was shot.
